This evening was the Capital One Cup Semi - Final second leg at home to a Everton side that held a 2-1 lead over us. During the first leg, there was not much to shout about for The Citizens, with a laboured performance tipped off with going behind again straight after we made it 1-1 against the run of play. But a few weeks have past since the first leg, a time in which City have won two, and drawn two (one of the draws in fact coming against Everton at home).
After a enthusiastic, lively start from the hosts, with some beautiful passing play that we love to see from the blues, we somehow found ourselves 1-0 down (1-3) on agg at this point. Once againt highlighting the vunerability we show at the back in most games now. It looked like we were to be in for a long night, but a lucky deflection off a Fernandinho strike found its way into the back of the net, and just like that, we were back in buisness. The precise passing and lively start we had made re-appeared and City were on the up. Everton posed little threat and only had the occasional counter-attack, which always led to nothing special. However we ended the half level on the night, and 1 goal behind on agg.
We started the second half as we meant to go on, passion, pace, attacking, defending, teamwork, and a healthy aggression from the boys in blue. Everything we want to see as fans at the Etihad. 25 pressing minutes had past us by like a flash and we were wondering whether it was going to be our night .. and just like that .. A controversial pass from sterling which appeared to be out of play, found the subsitute De Bruyne and he riffled it home to give us a real chance to go on and win. Six minutes later, who else but Sergio Aguero to make that happen. A exquisite cross into the box from De Bruyne found the head of Aguero, who poked it home to give us a lead for the first time in this semi-final. The night ended on a bitter sweet note, with De Bruyne having to be stretchered off after a nasty looking fall, which looks to have damaged his knee ligaments quite possibly. But to end on a high, City were simply better on the night and deserved to go through. A truley passionate performance, full of will power and determination proved well for City and we shall meet Liverpool in the Final on February 28th in what will be our first final against Liverpool in a major competition.
