In 2008 Sheikh Mansour bought Manchester City for £210m which was always going to be a game-changer for the blues, and the arrival of one of footballs best managers confirms City as one of the top footballing sides in world football and firmly shuts up any people who don't take us seriously.
Rumours had been circulating for months, even years about Guardiola joining the citizens. But only last week were the rumours confirmed. As is his nature, Manuel Pellegrini casually slips it in at the end of a press conference that he will be leaving in the summer and minutes later City announce the imminent arrival of Pep Guardiola.
City not only have the best infrastructure in English football but they now have one of the finest managers to lead this project.
Off the field the development of this club has been well documented and in the last 18 months they have expanded their stadium, constructed a state of the art first team training and youth development centre and cooped up a deal with a Chinese media company that will certainly bring in a significant commercial benefits over the next few years.
Pep will still have something to prove, with the demanding physical approach and fixture pile ups that the premier league stows upon you. Not to mention no winter breaks, We will finally no the answer to the question .. ‘But can he do it on a cold wet and windy night at Stoke?’
All these obstacles will soon be realised and we will see how well Pep can do in the English league But what is clear is that he shall inherit a top quality side, albeit with a shaky looking defence with certain gaps that need filling around the pitch, but he will have no interference from above and plenty of money to reshape and mould this squad into a dominant force in England. Something which, in my opinion City are still yet to do. I say this because, I want to see us win back to back titles, and not fall behind by 8/10 points by December, something which has happened in each of our title defence campaigns, and a quality run in the champions league, putting fear into the big teams that we can actually beat them in Europe.
This may take some time to get going but its a wondering starting point we have whose record is sensational.
His record at Barcelona was: P 247, W 179, D47, L21. People argue back and say ‘but look at the squad he had’ but this was a squad who hadn’t won anything the previous two seasons and he came in and built a wonderful team that is arguably the greatest ever barcelona team. His success continued at Bayern after a year away from the game, winning 5 more trophies, bringing his average trophy rate at a trophy every 20.2 games which is unbelievable. Guardiola’s appointment is by no means a guarantee City will jump into the group of elites but it certainly an exciting time at Manchester City with everything in place to be a dominant force.
